RE: PROPOSED INVOLVEMENT OF THE FOUNDATION IN THE ECONOMIC ACTIVITY OF GREENTOP SEAWEEDS PROD.CO. IN THE ISLAND OF JAO, BIEN UNIDO BOHOL.


This Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) whose objective is to assist the local government or initiate programs that will address the problems of poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy and job employment in the two barangays Piinamgo and Suba, Island of Jao Its focus is plainly working out the very essential aspect of human development which is; mental, physical, spiritual or moral. The Foundation in coordination with the different core groups in Manila and from the different parts of the globe guided by the Spirit of Love and Solid Active Participation (LASAP) will conquer and defeat this threat that beset the rights and dignity of human person to live a decent life. Greentop Seaweeds Production Company tries its very best to support all the programs that the Foundation wants to implement for the well being of the residents of these two barangays mentioned.


Geographical situation:

Priority island is in the Island of Jao. This island has an area of ______________ having _________ families. The island comprises three barangays: Pinamgo, Suba and Busalian. It is 15 minutes ride using pumpboat away from the municipality of Bien Unido. The island for long long years were deprived of electrical services by daytime. Electricity will run only during nighttime up to 10 PM only by the use of a generator. By 10 PM everybody should be on their beds. Their natural resources like farmlands do not have crops to harvest due to lack of water to fertilize their farms. People depend on fishing and seaweed farming. Others resort to illegal fishing activities because it is easier to make money. For those who have their seaweed farm are a bit lucky for they can develop it in their accord if they have enough  money to start. For a hectare it costs them a thousand  excluding the seedlings and other materials needed in order to start culturing seaweeds. As soon as the farmers have their seaweed harvests, traders buy them for a low price.  Fathers do the dirty work in the farm while mothers are left in their homes attending their young ones. Because mothers have no means to generate income, their family income is not enough for the whole family. The children have schools to serve as learning institution. Their school facilities are not conducive for learning. They don’t have enough reading materials in the library, rooms are hot, clinic room is not equipped, comfort rooms need some improvement. Children are mostly malnourished. Statistics show that island of Jao belongs to the poverty line. Boat transport hire is also one the sources of income among well off individuals who own pumpboats. They collect 15 to 20 pesos for each passenger or 200 to 400 pesos for “pakyaw” ( it depends on the distance).

First to address the problems of poverty, the Foundation will introduce different livelihood programs to serve as the solution to the problem of poverty. In coordination with the Technological Livelihood Resource Center in Buendia, Makati, the Foundation sponsored by the Greentop Seaweed Production Company will seek assistance from the Office of the Director to bring in some speakers down to the island who will train abled mothers and young adults who have interest and inclinations into business such as shell crafting, handicraft making and many more. The Department of Trade and Industry will ensure of the market availability as long as the quality is good. The company will pump in capital needed to start up the small business whose husbands are working in the seaweed farm owned by Greentop Seaweed Production Company. As  long as the quality is good, the Company as well will serve as their market.

One major concern is the health problem of our young generation. Our young generation as Dr. Jose Rizal once said, they are the future of our nation. It is the concern of the Foundation to prepare this young generation for a task that is left undone by the late generation. But how can they perform well if they are not equipped physically today for the amount of load that they will carry tomorrow?

The Foundation considers the “Feeding Program” as the initial step. In coordination with some mothers and Ministers in the island, the Foundation will conduct a weekly Feeding Program for the children below normal weight. This practice will not be lifetime as, on the other hand, we are teaching them to become passive and indifferent in their maternal responsibility over their children. Part of the program of the Foundation is to teach mothers how to cook simple Filipino cuisine yet economical and nutritious for their children and for everybody in the family. To attend to their physical well being as well, groups of medical specialists will visit the island sponsored by the Company for a monthly physical check up and for those who need immediate medical attention.

After talking about physical well being, comes the mental well being of a person. What is the use of being physically able and strong if his mental capacity does not exhibit normal or above normal intellectual quotient and common sense. Our aim is to prepare and produce good future leaders who are moral and god-fearing, who will lead the nation with strong and determined principle into one and achieve one common goal, who is disciplined to think and practice what is good if not possible for everybody at least for the majority.

The Foundation sees the opportunity to invade the educational system in the elementary level. This is the formative years of a person. Without jeopardizing the Program of DECS, the Foundation will have an open dialogue with the school authorities to include with maximum priority in the curriculum a “Group Dynamics Activities” to hasten the children’s communication skills, listening skills, interrelationship skills, leadership skills and above all readiness to respond to every situation that confront them and solve problem situations by themselves alone. Teachers, if training is necessary, must be practically clever and smart so they can illustrate life puzzling situations for the young ones to solve and decipher by their own. Due to lack of support from the government, the Foundation offers some support to the best we can to the institution as the house of knowledge (DOMUS SCIENTIAE) to our young generation like computers, encyclopedia and some reading materials.

In addition, man is a moral person. This is something of great importance that everybody must understand. God rewards those who do good. Let us teach everybody to do good not because punishment awaits (if he fails to do it) but because he knows and convinced that doing good is an essential trait of a civilized, well educated, responsible person.

GREEN symbolizes life. And it is life that is the principal concern of the Foundation. Life that everybody wants to nourish and nurture. The Foundation helps everybody in nourishing their God given gift which is “Life.”

Life is the TOP priority of the Company in collaboration with the Foundation in Action.
